Millfield Park, Brentwood

Millfield Park was the former office of McColl's, the national chain of convenience stores. It featured some Victorian buildings of good quality, and some post-war flat-roofed office buildings, all of which benefited from permission under the "prior approval" process for conversion to residential use. However, the local authority had been overwhelmed with a series of minor planning applications of alterations and refused to determine any of them without a clear holistic vision for the site.

Hope Architects were retained to masterplan the overall scheme, and make a series of interventions with the existing buildings as well as design new build houses for the surrounding site and parkland. This scheme was presented to Essex Place Services' Design Review Panel in the summer of 2022 and was received favorably, and is expected to proceed to a series of planning applications in early 2023.
